Belgium in uproar about drinking students

In Belgium, a lot of confusion and uproar was caused by an attempt on a drinking record. A students’ group from Austria organized a match in which students had to drink a barrel of beer within fifteen minutes. Social organizations were shocked and considered it a disgrace, but the students considered their behaviour as having a nice little party…

Drink until you throw up

Students’ teams consisting of ten members had to drink beer 90 pints (almost 50 liters, so 5 liter per person) as quickly as possible. Throwing up was punished by disqualification.

Coma

People in Belgium reacted with horror to this event. The Association of Alcohol and Drugs problems was severely shocked and reacted: ‘This is purely alcohol abuse. This type of drinking can lead to comas’. The students didn’t see any dangers themselves. ‘We have been organizing this match for years and we never experiences troubles.’
