Moroccan students have, despite their feeling of insecurity about their position compared to natives, an enormous ambition to belong to the Dutch society. ‘If you get a HBO-diploma, you will finally be socially accepted, these youngsters think’.
Personal matters show source of ambition
Besides interviews with the young Moroccans, she experienced and observed their marriage parties, birthdays and other personal feasts. Opposite to what is often thought, both Moroccan parents but also older brothers and sisters put pressure on their younger family member to graduate and get a diploma.
