American and Canadian students more often refuse to eat during the day. Why? To swallow the calories in the evening, by drinking alcohol. Especially female students show this unhealthy type of behaviour, American research reveals.

Serious risk

‘Drunkorexia’ is the name given to this behaviour, by scientists. Drunkorexia can be a serious risk for the health of youngsters. One in five students in North-America would suffer from this negative phenomenon.

Easily drunk?

Especially women avoid eating during the day, so that they can drink a lot in the evening and yet not swallow too many calories. Students showing Drunkorexia symptoms say that they behave like this because they get easily drunk, save money (from not eating) and stay slim…
