More foreign students in Dutch universities

04-10-2011 @ 13:19:15 by Sensor

Dutch Universities are getting more and more foreign students. In five years time, the number of foreign students has doubled.

Medical studies

Last year, one in five students didn’t come from Holland. Popular studies among foreign students are studies which places are put up for a raffle, such as Medical Science and Dentistry.

Less chances for Dutch student

The Dutch Party for Freedom and the Socialist Party are worried about the chances of Dutch people. There are now less places in these popular studies for Dutch students. The parties want to set rules about the maximum number of foreign students allowed.

Losing money

The internationalization is a current issue. Last month, the same political parties were worried about the millions of Euros the Netherlands spend on the number of foreign students. There are less Dutch students going abroad compared to the number of foreign students entering the Netherlands. This causes a negative balance of hundreds of millions of Euros.

Forty per cent rise

An investigation showed that the number of foreign students has risen with forty per cent compared to last year.
