From HAN to Harvard

Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama… these are all names of celebrities who studied at Harvard University. And now, HAN-student (Life Science) Shi Yingxiao is about to follow their footsteps. Shi flew to Cambridge (Massachusetts) in the end of August to study at world’s most prestigious University: Harvard

Recommended for his qualities

During his first traineeship in IPS-cells at institute Hubrecht, his teacher was so impressed by Shi’s qualities that he recommended his student to professor Paola Arlotta of the department Stem Cells at Harvard University

'I feel the pressure'

After an application via Skype, he was contracted. In Cambridge, Shi will work in a stem cell project in which neurons are bred. With these neurons, it will be possible for example to recover body functions of people who suffer from paralysis. Shi: ‘I feel the pressure, but I can handle it. It is a golden opportunity to learn a lot and prove my capacities.’
