Why isnt the Students OV-chip working properly?

21-06-2011 @ 11:54:43 by Marijn Hondorp

How is it possible that the students’ public transport passes (OV-chip) seem to be out of order more often than those of other travelers? This was a question asked by Anne-Wil Lucas (Party of Freedom and Democracy) to the State Secretary. The fact is that students have to request a new transport pass more often than other travelers.

Loss and theft: own fault

In fifty per cent of the cases, this is caused by loss or theft. Students lose their passes somewhere, or they get stolen but this occurs less often. Loss and theft occur twice as many in students cases compared to other travelers’ cases. In thirty per cent of the students’ cases, the students were could be held responsible.

Be careful or pay

The fact that students’ transport passes get broken more often than passes of others, is because students are less careful with their passes. Should your pass get broken, you have to pay for the journey yourself, temporarily. These costs are declarable, if it was not your fault your pass got broken.
