Students flee from aggressive landlord

16-06-2011 @ 12:42:37 by Marijn Hondorp

Five students escaped their house at night this week in Utrecht, because they had been intimidated by their landlord for months. The intimidation escalated, and the students ran off.

Police inactive

The students had to pay 10 per cent more rent, which they did not find appropriate at all. Subsequently, the landlord took action to get rid of the students. The police has been at the spot several times, but could not do anything.

New plan: complaints office for renters

This is also the reason that the students stood up for themselves and ran off. They are still hoping that their landlord will be arrested before new students rent the house. Member of the Labour Party Haagse supports the duped students and wants the government to set up clear rules about renting, and where students can get help when they have such problems as these, for example a complaints office.
