Say goodbye to the buscard!
10-06-2011 @ 15:17:02 by Marijn Hondorp
Yet a few weeks before the national bus card is past! From 30 June on, only the Public transport pass (OV) will be valid in the buses of Arriva, Breng, Connexxion, Syntus and Twents.
Bye bye buscard
To make sure that the validity of the bus card will definitely end, bus companies in Gelderland, Overrijsel, Flevoland and cities Arnhem and Nijmegen have a send-off campaign for the bus card. With many discounts of visits to the museum, zoos, and other entertainment places, the bus companies try to get people to use their bus cards, so they will be full and finished with. The remains on the bus cards will not be paid out.
Mainly students who use pass
With this campaign, the bus companies also try to introduce people to the new Public Transport Pass, because there are still many people who don’t have and use them yet. In Nijmegen for example, 41.3 per cent of all travelling people used their public transport pass, including all students. This means, that without the students, only 10 per cent of the people use the public transport pass.
The end is near
The companies know that there is still a lot for them to do. With pamphlets, brochures, promotions and information on the internet, they try to inform as many people as possible and prepare them for the switch. On Saturday 18 and 25 June, service teams will set off to help people personally. On 20 June, the definite end for the bus card is a fact. From that day on, you can no longer buy bus cards.
Disagreement?
Next week, there will be another debate within the government about the public transport pass. Member of the Labour Party Monasch, demands again postponement of the abolition of the bus card.
