Many students misbehave during a night out

10-06-2011 @ 11:06:44 by Marijn Hondorp

Bullying people is not something that students do, you would think. But your very very wrong. Re-search shows that 41,8 % of the students, in various degrees, curse people during a night out. Also, a high percentage gets involved with a fight. And were not even talking about the extremes: vandalism and fights...

Aggression measured

These were the results of a research which was held amongst 1000 students, by the institute of Integration and Social Defence. This institute wanted to measure the aggression amongst students during nights out in the club, pub or other entertainment places. Different degrees of aggression were measured, such as involvement in cursing, fights and vandalism.

The numbers...

  • Amongst the 41,8 % of cursing students: 31,3% curses rarely, 9,3 % curses sometimes and 1,2 % often.
  • Amongst the 30,2 %of fighting students: 28,3 % fights rarely, 1.7 % fights sometimes.
  • Vandalism occurs less, of the 16.7 % vandalizing students: 15,1 % vandalizes rarely and 1,6 % often.

Differences men and women?

There are major differences between men and women. Men say twice as many times to curse others, and are five times more involved in fights than women. What is also noticeable, is that students who are living at home with their parents, show more aggressive behaviour than students living away from home, although the differences are quite small. Students who are member of a Students’ Union show more aggressive behaviour than non-members.
