Graduation through Skype

01-07-2011 @ 15:16:13 by Marijn Hondorp

What do you do when your final assignment takes place in Australia, and you fancy to have your holi-days over there? It is as simple as can be: you will have your final assessment with help of Skype. This is what two HAN-students do.

Stay for the holidays

Emile Visser and Niels Lebbink each got the chance to carry out a task individually within an international research project. The HAN-students wanted to prolong their stay in Sidney for the holidays because they won’t get the chance to go to Australia again that easily. The final presentation and defence of their graduation project could be done via Skype.

Unique at HAN

For the coaching of Niels and Emily, Skype was often already used. But to have the final assessment via Skype was quite unique, especially for the assessors. Emile has had the assessment in the meantime, and Niels will be assessed in a few days.

Make it possible

Presenting and defending your graduation project through Skype is a bit weird, but it is possible. With a laptop, web-cam, microphone and internet connection you can have a conversation wherever you want. It isn’t a problem to involve 3,4 or 5 participants to a group-conversation. But mind you, it is important to plan well, with Australia there is a difference in time of eight hours!
