Party for Freedom: Fire all bad teachers

27-05-2011 @ 12:39:07 by Marijn Hondorp

Universities and colleges must fire 5 per cent of their worst achieving teachers every year. Not only the board of directors, but also students and teachers may take part in the conversation about this matter. Party of Freedom-member Harm Beertma takes serious steps with this plan, according to the Daily Newspaper (AD).

Everyone knows bad teachers

‘The bad teachers are easy to identify: everybody knows them’, Beertema says, who taught at a in-termediate vocational education college in Rotterdam for 34 years. ‘You have to call them to account about their quality, and if they don’t improve it would be best to be able to fire them.’

Educational sector

Beertema recognizes that such a measure has advantages and disadvantages. ‘Especially these days, where there are many teacher-shortages. But also because there is no sector which has this kind of unprofessional staff policy. In the 34 of teaching, I only had three performance interviews.’
