Majority of higher-educated employees regret student loan

23-05-2011 @ 13:12:27 by Marijn Hondorp

Almost half of the Dutch higher-educated start working, while having a student loan. More than half of these employees regret this study loan at a later moment.

Money for studying

Male starting employees seem to have a study loan more often than female employees: respectively 58 against 42 per cent. A study loan means that a student borrows money from the government to afford their study.

Two-third of the higher-educated employees has a study loan of more than 5000 Euros. Approximately 20 per cent has to pay back 20,000 Euros to the government.

Turn back time

The majority of the respondents to the poll says to have a bad feeling about their study loans. If they could turn back time, they would have borrowed less money and would have worked more to afford their studies, and they also would have tried to finish their studies earlier.
