Boy cannot wear high-heels to school

13-05-2011 @ 13:00:24 by Marijn Hondorp

In Florida, a fuss arose after a boy had worn high heels to school. The pupil was forced by the head-master of the Riverview High School to take off his shoes.

Abused by classmates

The headmaster forced him to take off his shoes ‘to avoid the boy being bullied’. A teacher had warned the headmaster that other pupils started to call the boy names. The lessons of the teacher got disturbed by the bullies.

Safety first

There is nothing stated within the schools’ policy about the type of shoes male pupils have to wear. But according to the headmaster, the safety of the boy was not guaranteed by wearing the female shoes, even though he is in general free to wear what he likes.

Embarrassment

A friend of the boy says that the high heels were giving the boy more self-esteem. ‘He was not embarrassed until he was called to account by the headmaster.’
