Are women doing better?

27-05-2011 @ 14:13:14 by Marijn Hondorp

Last study year, again, more female students than male students graduated within higher education. In universities, this lead was even bigger compared to colleges.

Growth in Universities

The universities awarded more than 15,000 diplomas to women, which means a growth of 8 per cent compared to the year before. Of all men, approximately 13,000 got their masterdiploma, which is a growth of 5 per cent.

Type of study makes no difference

Amongst higher vocational students, the difference between men and women is even bigger. Almost 27,000 male students graduated, against 35,000 female students. The type of study chosen by men and women makes no difference for the gap between the amount of graduated students.

But men are better when it comes to...

So it is clear that women are doing better in education, right? But is that important? Men are still win-ning in one particular, and of course important, way… They still seem to earn more money than fe-male employees, because their starting salary is higher.
