Your success lies within your heart

28-04-2011 @ 14:03:34 by Marijn Hondorp

An exam to fear? Tip: right before you start your exam, run a lap of two around the building and do some push-ups! Research shows that an increased heart beat improves your results!

Secret of success

The secret of academic or educational success lies within your heart beat. Researchers of the Assessments and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) from Manchester, let The Sunday Times (English newspaper) publish the their results that a higher heart pulse during an exam improves the results.

Alertness instead of fear

According to the researchers, a higher heart pulse increases watchfulness instead of fear. They found evidence that students who were anxious before sitting an exam, got a higher heart pulse. The researchers emphasize that the group of people tested was too small to consider the results as facts, but the differences are ‘significant’.

Run for a good grade

In an follow-up research, the scientists want to analyze the differences between positive and negative exam stress, so students are able to reduce their fears and increase their alertness. The researchers discourage students to take medicines which increase the heart beat, because it is not healthy. So Sensor advices you to run a lap or two before sitting the exam.

It stinks, the sweat you will produce while running…but anything for a good grade, right?
