HAN-research: Video increases chance application

Sending a video curriculum vitae with your letter of application increases your chance to have follow-on calls. This is the conclusion drawn out of a research carried out by HAN-students Willemien de Vries, Charlotte van Karnenbeek and Jurrien Schouten, who do a Communication study.
These students have researched the output of sending video CVs in Holland, as part of the minor Digital Communication fur Businessess.
Digital support
‘In America and Australia, video CV is the most common thing on Earth. Within every application, video CVs are send to a company. There was no such thing before in the Netherlands, therefore we started this research,’ Willimien de Vries explains.
Value?
De Vries, Karnenbeek en Schouten wondered what the value of digital supports such as the video CV would be, in the selecting process of employees. With this kind of digital support, applicants can show their qualities and capabilities.
The research shows that companies don’t necessarily ask for a video-CV during the application process. However, these companies are more willingly to undertake follow-on calls with the applicant if he or she is supported by their video CV.
Advantages and disadvantages
An applicant who sends a video CV with a letter of application, is considered to be more original and makes the applications more attractive to watch. It also makes the company to get a better first impression of the applicant, and get to know their qualities. An advantage of the video CV is the time it takes to create it, because it is not a easy job. The video has to be of a good quality to hold the company’s attention, otherwise recruits throw it away as rubbish.
