Film 'Farewell' at HAN

05-10-2010 @ 15:30:02 by Marijn Hondorp

Ex-student Ditteke Mensink made the film Farewell, which is a documentary about Grace Drummond-Hay, the first woman who flew around the world. We’re talking about the late twenties here.

Auditorium HAN, 6.30 pm

The airship was a zeppelin with a length of 247 meters. The film can be seen on 7 October, in the main building of the HAN, Kapittelweg in Nijmegen. The film starts at 6.30 pm.

Zeppelin

In 1929, Grace Drummond-Hay was the world’s first woman to fly around the world. In a zeppelin. She was the only female amongst twenty males. One of those men was Karl von Wiegand, a much older paperboy who had had a relationship with Drummond-Hay earlier. A relationship which was broken by Karl. The documentary producer Mensink tells their story, on the basis of fragments from Grace’s journals, which she illustrates with a lot of photographs taken from everywhere.

The story is full of romances and Hollywood, but than real. Not for nothing the film was the sensation of the documentary festival IDFA in 2009, and received four stars at the website www.cinema.nl

Below, a little preview!
