Clear away your own (separated) mess

The Faculty of Economy and Management organized the ‘Trash Theatre’ (Dutch: Afvaltheater). Goal: to draw the attention to the separation of trash. A great amount of cups, banana peels and pieces of paper which was collected from the tables in the canteen, was - separately- exhibited.
Coffee cups are plastic, not paper
According to initiators Peter van den Munckhof (teacher Food & Businesses) and Marc Meinema (employee Intern Services), waste is not well-separated. ‘There are three types of waste: paper, plastic and other remaining waste,’ Marc tells. The remaining waste consists of polystyrene (foam), tin, vegetables, fruit and coffee cups. ‘We often see that the cups are thrown away with paper, because it looks like they are made of paper. But there is still this plastic layer around the cups. Many students and staff members are not aware of this.’
Annoyance
In addition to the Trash Theatre, an survey was held, regarding the separation of waste. Strikingly, a lot of trash remains lying on the tables in the canteen, while students declare that they find this rather annoying. ‘Especially other people’s trash,’ Peter says. But that means that the students have to clear away their own trash too!
Keep it clean!
In short: trash on the tables causes for students, as well as for employees, a severe annoyance. Clear your own mess away and tackle a person about it when you see him or her not doing so. This way, we keep it a nice and clean place!
