Almost time...

08-09-2010 @ 15:47:29 by Marijn Hondorp

Roel Jansen (22), HAN-student International Business Studies, studies half a year at the Plekhanov International Business School in Moscow. Until the beginning of 2011 he will inform us about his experiences in the Russian capital.

Ready for take off? Not yet...

In a few days I will be flying from Dusseldorf to Moscow. I collected my visa at the Russian embassy a few days ago, and it is now safe within my passport. Ready for take-off? No, not yet. To be able to conquer the winter in Russia, I went to town to buy a few brand new sweaters and a pair of good shoes so that I am well-prepared to enter Moscow. There are also a few practical things to arrange before I go. My sister will be using my room for the time I am away, and therefore I have to move my stuff again. I have also ‘frozen’ my mobile phone subscription so that it doesn’t continue while I am in Russia. Ready to pack my bags and clean my room before my sister enters it. In the meantime I had contact with my ‘buddy’ in Moscow several times; she told me about the smog in the city and about the heat wave which is present at the moment. When I ask her if there are things I absolutely shouldn’t forget, she tells me not to forget my party outfit. As if I would!

Furthermore she tells me that it is not that cold in Moscow as I thought, because February and March are the coldest months in Moscow. So I don’t have to be afraid of temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius!

The first day at the University, the President will make a visit. It would be nice, being a correspondent of Sensor, to take a picture of him. To be continued. For now, I have to say goodbye to my grandfather and grandmothers and then… if it’s up to me, the adventure can start! I am very curious about my new roommate and the rest of the campus and university. I am looking forward to it all!
