Second HAN ECO Marathon

23-08-2010 @ 10:54:05 by Marijn Hondorp

Students of Car Engineering participated for the second time in the HAN Eco Marathon competition this summer, which was held in Lelystad.

Creative and sustainable

The HAN ECO Marathon is a economical race, in which students can participate and design and build their own vehicle. These vehicles are built within limited time and with a small budget. Still, the future engineers know how to outdo, and surpass all expectations.

Did you know?

Students who follow the subject Automotive Development, can choose this competition as optional study project!

Free to draft

What makes this HAN Eco Marathon so attractive? It is the freedom which the students have in designing and constructing their vehicles. Besides that, the competition aspect is a motivation to end as the ultimate winner. The students pass eight weeks of designing and eight weeks of production of the vehicles. These weeks are closed with a economical (sustainable) competition. The total budget contains only one thousand Euros. The creativity of the students results in many different vehicles.

Highly sustainable performance

During the pre-tests it seems that a few of the seven participating groups reach a unofficial consumption of 200 kilometers per liter. The competitions remains thrilling until the last session in which group 3 finally wins with an improbable consumption of 296 kilometers per liter.
