Hoodiehood

25-08-2010 @ 11:17:08 by Marijn Hondorp

ABS has come up with a new rage: The ABS-Hoodie! This hoodie unites all students, male or female...

School spirit

The majority of international students attending the Arnhem Business School (ABS), declared in a survey that they miss a strong ‘school spirit’: an identity that unites them’, says Mike Bruines, who is chief of the ABS student council. ‘That is why we came up with a basic, but solid item, that is suitable for both males and females: the ABS-hoodie.’ (red: The picture does not represent the original ABS-hoodie)

Passionate about communities

It all started when Mike and some fellow classmates noticed that many international students wanted to voice their opinions and suggestions. Mike: ‘Without offending Dutch students, I have to say that students from abroad are much more passionate about school communities. That is why we founded the council and started collecting their wishes and complaints.

Many strong points for improvement came up, but I believe their wish for a ‘community item’ not only shows their pride in what they study, but also their loyalty to the school and their joy of recognizing fellow students.’ Mike sought the support of the HAN, but found there were some conflicting interests. ’It’s almost as though the ABS is a separate institute, that the HAN has an ambivalent relationship with.

Sale during the introduction week!

They asked for the HAN-logo to be prominent on the sweater, but weren’t supported financially or marketing-wise in return. It doesn’t work that way, so we went and did our own thing, with luckily much support from the faculty.’ The hoodies have been a huge success so far: in one afternoon eighty percent was sold within the hour. ‘We have a new load coming for the introduction week in September. So watch out for us then!
