Stupid!

What do they hate about Holland? 

• Everybody wears clothes in that hideous color on Queensday: orange. (Germany)
• Everybody drinks so much coffee. I wonder why they aren’t jumping around all day long from all that caffeine. (China)
• There’s not much open space around here. (Australia)
• At McDonalds you get some strange, creamy yellow sauce served on the Big Mac-menu (Greece)
• Why is there always a pause during the movie in the cinema… WE DON’T NEED NO BREAK! (Sweden)
• There are no mountains to climb (Nepal)
• People eat onions and satay sauce on their fries. Yak! (Sweden)
• Life is boring in Holland. The shops close way too early! (China)
• Yesterday it was raining, today it’s raining… will it ever stop raining?!?! (China)
• All the food here is so sweet. Spice it up! (Bangladesh)
• People here complain a lot about noise: you can’t have a good party without the police knocking on your door (Colombia)
• Where is the underground in Arnhem and Nijmegen? (England)
• Everybody says Dutch people are frugal: I have a lot of Dutch friends and none of them are (Columbia)
• Can anybody tell me where to find GOOD Chinese food? (Ireland)
• Everybody is always in a hurry. Relax and slow down, please. Take it easy! (Aruba)
• The Dutch pubs are so empty that even my grandmother would be bored (Austria)
• The entire country hurries to the beach when it’s only 21 degrees. (Italy)
• It takes two hours to get to Amsterdam because you have to travel through all those meadows (Colombia)
• The Dutch language.. can it be more ugly? (Germany)
• I HATE potatoes! (China)

• Dutch people have mood swings. One minute they’re happy and the other minute they’re moody or sad. (Indonesia)

What do the students like about Holland?

• Praise the Lord for cycle paths! (Aruba)
• Dutch people are very open-minded. They are up for anything. (Colombia)
• The younger generation is very independent. They decide a lot of things without their parents. (Bangladesh)
• You can have a joint (…or two) without getting caught by the police. (England)
• The pink, yellow and purple tulips! (England)
• I love ‘frietje speciaal’ (Sweden)
• Thumbs up for pretty Maxima! What has Alexander got that I don’t have? (Ireland)
• There’s so much green nature around here. (China)
• FEBO is the bomb! (Aruba)
• Blue cheese, young cheese, goat cheese…all kinds of cheese! (Germany)
• Dutch girls are hot! (Bangladesh)
• The fascination for and hype about the World Cup football. (Colombia)
• The environment! The air is fresh and the streets are very clean. (China)
• The special student night on Thursdays (…and the beer that comes with that). (Ireland)
• The many concerts, events and stuff like that. (Colombia)
• The spring starts so early! (Sweden)
• HEMA sausage rocks! (Aruba)
• Sandwiches with peanut butter in the morning. Way better than cereals. (Austria)
• The attitude of Dutch people. They are straightforward. Some people may have problems with that, but I just love it. (Germany)
• Give it up for ‘stroopwafels’! I’ll take three boxes with me when I go home and introduce them to all my friends. (Australia)
• The cosy student homes! At home I live all alone. How boring.. (Austria)
• The Red Light District in Amsterdam. Can you believe that? (England)
• I’ve been to Madurodam once, with all its little houses and itsy bitsy buildings. How cute! (Sweden)
• Drinking under the age of 21! Hooray! (America)
