ISBS scores with top-arbitrator

10-11-2009 @ 17:01:04 by Sensor

That the HAN is a breeding ground for good researchers, is again being proved by the fact that the institute for Sports and Exercise studies (ISBS in Dutch) got in the papers with their top-referee research.

Highly educated

This research shows that top-referees owe their talent to the fact that they are highly educated. Because of this, they are able to make decisions very fast, can cope with stress and want to have one’s cake and eat it. Sebastiaan Platvoet, of the ISBS, says: ‘I did the research together with my colleague Ben Halle, by order of the Masterplan Arbitrage. The goal of the research was to improve refereeing in Holland.’

Conclusion

With a questionnaire research, the two analyzed the characteristics of top-referees in Holland. The most noticeable conclusion is that the percentage of highly-educated amongst top sport-professionals (66 per cent) is much higher than the national average (29 per cent). Especially in team sports, referees are highly educated.

Results and goal

‘As a result of our conclusions, we have set up a recommendation report which can be presented orally and on paper to sports federations. This report has been received positively and we now work on the set-up of a talent-identification system for refugees,’ Platvoet says. He proudly goes on: ‘The research of the ISBS has received much publicity and we have presented ourselves as knowledge-institution in the area of talent recognition and talent development. We want to create a distinct profile of ourselves in this area in the world of sports.’ Something on which the HAN can be very proud.
