Goodmooorning Vietnam

The HAN formed the start of a study-tour through Holland for about twenty Vietnamese in the beginning of this month. Purpose of the tour: getting insight in the management of medical education and maintenance-organisations.
Vietnam in the middle ages
Rectors of medical universities in Vietnam and delegates of different Departments had a tour of inspection through a number of medical faculties and maintenance organisations in our cold country. They also spoke to several policy makers in Den Haag. During the kickoff in the auditorium in the Kapittelweg in Nijmegen Bart van Bergen, organzier of the tour, explains what the delegation from Viernam can learn here: ‘the knowledge in the area of management of the care sector and education is huge. It is often said that the hospitals and universities in Vietnam are ‘still in the middle ages.’ It is not that bad of course, but they still have to take a few steps
Inputs
It is all much easier to say than to do, van Bergen realises: ‘It has been a gradually process, in which we had many inputs. In Vietnam it has to be done in a much higher pace, with less inputs.’
Hospital interests
The Vietnamese delegation was very interested in the difference between academical hospitals and ‘ordinary’ hospitals. And what is the best organization structure with that? ‘A good doctor is not yet a good manager,’ van Berger illustrates.
Back home
The delegation from Vietnam is back in own land in the meantime, but in November van Bergen departs heading for Vietnam to evaluate the case and initialize projects which take part in a professional health service in Vietnam.
