Again delay for students administrations

07-10-2009 @ 15:51:22 by Renee Jenniskens

Like last year, problems have occurred considering the enrolments of students. Colleges and Universities again get another month time to cope with the enrolments.

Signature

‘This practically means that students can put their signature still in October, to pay the tuition fee from September on’, a spokeswoman of the Cabinet says. According to her, “several institutes” had asked for postponement.

Government's fund

Generally spoken, universities and colleges have to inform the Information Management Group  about how many students have enrolled on 1 October. These numbers of students have influence on the heights of the Government’s funds.

Problems with new enrol-system

Last year, the new enrol-system ‘Studielink’ caused problems with the processing of enrolments. Several colleges asked for delay, but at that time they could chose their own deadline. The problem these days seems to be caused by a university which uses the system for the first time.

Confusing

For some students Studielink works very confusing, Caroline van der Molen of Saxion says. She is director of the service Education and Student. ‘Senior students often make mistakes when they re-enroll. They accidentally enrol as a new student’.

Not passed on

Universities Union VSNU did not know, according to its spokesman, that the Cabinet had given postponement, and therefore did not pass on this message. But according to the Cabinet, the Universities Union was indeed informed. The HBO-board knew, and had passed on the message to all Colleges of Higher Education.
