Many new students have become member of a students’ union this school year. The amount of first year members is thirteen per cent higher than last year, the National Board of Unions says.
Increase
Especially the connected unions in Groningen, Leiden, Tilburg and Wageningen did very well, with an increase between twenty-five and thirty per cent. In Amsterdam, Utrecht and Delft the amounts of new first years remained the same.
Imago of unions
According to Lex de Jongh, chairman of the Board, students are more aware of the use of a membership. He thinks the increase is partly caused by improvements of the imago of students’ sociability unions. De Jongh says it could also be possible that students have the need of sociability unions in this time of crisis.
