A former student from Florida was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, because he had broken into the university’s computer system, to change low marks into pass marks.
From fail to pass
Because of the fraud, students were qualified for grants which they otherwise never would have received. Or they made him change data of their parents within the accounts, through which they had to pay less tuition fee. 650 marks were changed in total, mostly from an unsatisfactory mark to a ten (pass).
No regret
During the court, the student did not show any remorse. Two accomplices had confessed and contributed in the investigation. They were punished less: 22 months imprisonment.
