Stephany: I was thirteen
Twenty-one-year-old Stefany studies at the Department of Society and Behaviour (SPH) in Nijmegen. Her first time has impressed her. ‘I was thirteen years old and the boy I did ‘it’ with was fourteen. We had had a relation for half a year and it just had to happen. Of course, we already had experimented a bit. One afternoon, after school, it happened: we had sex at his house, in his bed. I found it really exciting and was nervous, but it was lovely too. When I cycled home, I called my friends and shouted through the telephone ‘I have had sex!’ I’ve had a relationship with this boy for six years, afterwards.
Karel: ‘It was particularly exciting'
Karel is a fifty-nine-year-old teacher at the HAN in Nijmegen and he also openly tells about his ‘first time’. ‘It was particularly exciting. She was eighteen and I was nineteen. After we had been through several ‘preliminary stages’ we were finally ready for it. We already had been going out for a year together and were alone one afternoon. In my bed-room in my parental house ‘it’ happened. The act itself was not unpleasant but because of the tension it was not perfect. The feeling of solidarity and intimacy was much more important than the sex itself.’
Rik: 'A pleasant memory'
Rik studies at the Faculty of Health Care and Rehabilitation (Gezondheid, Gedrag en Maatschappij) in Nijmegen. The twenty-four-year-old student still has a pleasant memory of his first time sex. ‘It happened in my girlfriend’s bed and I was nineteen. Although it didn’t last long, namely ten seconds, I found it nice. I think my former girlfriend found the act less pleasant. In spite of the short ‘first time’ we have had a relation for another six months.
Theo: 'I don't remember that much'
Theo, a sixty-five-year-old caretaker at HAN University, does not remember that much of his first time. ‘That was so long ago! We were both eighteen years old. It was a girl from school and it happened at her house. Because that was very normal those days; as a boy you went to the girl. I don’t remember anything else, just that the girl is not my present wife.’
Lisette ended up in bed after a gala
The nineteen-year-old student Lisette was fifteen when she had sex for the first time. ‘After a gala at school we went to the pub for a while. Eventually we ended up in his bed. I had no relation with that boy but we got on well.
We already had kissed a few times. The act was painful and unpleasant. When I cycled home I thought ‘So this is it?’ Afterwards, I wouldn’t have had sex with him if alcohol had not been involved. But I don’t regret it at all. It has never worked out between that boy and me, but I still see him regularly. And no, we don’t have sex.
