The train will come soon

20-05-2009 @ 16:06:20 by Renee Jenniskens

Will it be brought in, or not? Although there is no student to be found who is against it, the night train has still not been introduced.

Under the leadership of Sanne Bitter, a student of the RU, a platform has been started which is about to lobby firmly. Sanne says: ‘At the moment ‘Dwars’, ‘Akku’, ‘de jonge Democraten’ and ‘Rood’ are taking part. We want to take action as soon as possible.’

But it has not come that far yet, as the parties have met on Friday for the first time. ‘We are going to create a website on which we will present the first petition’. Sanne has no idea how things will work out. ‘At the moment ‘Rood’ (youth-department of the SP) has a petition, and maybe we will link up with that; otherwise we will start our own petition.

Lobby

Besides its own petition, the platform will mostly lobby the Provincial States. ‘That is where the problem lies, they don’t want to pay any money.’ And that is their argument against the new night train track, according to the RU-student. ‘We also hear that the catering industries in Arnhem and Nijmegen would be against it. But I don’t see why they should because we have our own things here, not everybody will walk away straightly.’

When it comes to Sanne, there will be a night train which drives the route of Arnhem-Nijmegen-Den Bosch-Utrecht. ‘But there are two different options though; a train track between Arnhem and Nijmegen or a track between these two cities and Oss.
One train every hour, that’s the ideal, so that you can go home steadily after having spent the evening out.
