Run Forest Run

12-05-2009 @ 14:59:21 by 228

A man is vomiting on the grounds of the HAN Campus. Not a sight you see every day. But who could blame him? He just finished a marathon, a little puke is justified one might think.

Heavy day

Sunday the 10th of May wasn’t only a heavy day for him, but for 800 other runners as well. For the fourth year in a row the HAN-KAN Marathon & Relay was held, which is organized by students and employees of the HAN.

Kick-Off

When the kick-off sounded at exactly 9 a.m. hundreds of runners started their athletic journey from the HAN Campus in Arnhem to the HAN Campus in Nijmegen. The weather was good, 15 degrees Celsius and a watery sun. The route was even better. The organisation led the runners through the region of the Lingewaard, over beautiful dikes and stretched country roads. Scattered along the route spectators were cheering for their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers. Even the man with his face covered in slime and snut got a jolly ‘Run, Forest, run!’ Participants could opt for running the whole marathon solely, but also in a relay team with two or four members.

And the winner is...

Reinaud van Gastel, who registered at the last minute for this marathon, was the fastest man this day. He finished the 42.195 meters in two hours and fifty-five minutes. The fastest woman, Diana Rotes, did it in a little over three and a half hours. The fastest relay team finished in two hours and twenty-one minutes. And because it was Mother’s Day, the day the Dutch honour their mothers, the fastest mother got a prize too. Ain’t it sweet?

No good cause involved, I hear you think? Of course there was. The organization donated 1000 euros to Right to Play, an organisation that makes it possible for children all over the world to exercise. A successful day. Next year the HAN-KAN Marathon will be held for the fifth time. Will you be in it?
