Google for the Holy Grail

Many films, books, poems and stage plays have been dedicated to the legend of the history of King Arthur and his mentor Merlin. And of course the HAN would not be the HAN if it didn’t give it a try to shape the story of Lancelot, Guinevere, the Holy Grail, the Round Table and the theme of Good versus Evil.
Last week, students and teachers of the Teachers’ Training Institute of History (lerarenopleiding geschiedenis) performed their version of ‘Merlin’ three times, based on the theatre script of the German actor Tankred Dorst. The story has often been told; whether the play is worth it or not depends on the personal input of the performers. And it was worth it last week.
Lancelot grabs a guitar...
A Lancelot who suddenly grabs his guitar and starts to sing together with his lover Guinevere; a storyteller who wonders whether the Holy Grail should be found with the help of Google Earth; to express your love by calling somebody ‘supercool’. These are all examples of mordern, humoristic nuances within the ancient story. Although the play looked a bit untidy now and then, the cast knew how to fascinate the audience for the two whole hours and put a smile on their faces. With this performance, the end of the educational year of the Teachers’ Training Institute of History is introduced. For now, attention can be paid to next year's play, which will undoubtedly be just as captivating.
